Dubai is one of the most developed areas in the
Middle East. It
is a
highly prosperous area
characterized by open economy, very high per
capita income and a sizeable GDP. But the success
story of Dubai, from an impoverished economy hardly
a few decades ago to the current levels of
prosperity is a saga of impeccable planning of a
government with visionary zeal and absolute
dedication to achieve its goals.
It
is true that the discovery of oil in Dubai gave it a
giant boost in the middle of
sixties.
But Dubai
is not known today only as an oil rich
emirate.
The income from oil was utilized wisely on
infra structural development – such as Roads,
Buildings & ware houses, modernization of the
Air ports, Sea Ports etc - by the discerning government and to promote non-oil sector
industrial production centers, development of
trading houses, private investment in business from
locals or international business houses.
The
Result -
Dubai
has become an International Trading Hub in the
Middle East. Dubai has developed rapidly over the
past few years
and has transformed itself from an oil dependent
regional center
into a highly diversified international
business hub of
global significance which offers opportunities for
all those who are willing to contribute
positively to its development.
Dubai
is well connected
by roads with all the major cities in the
Middle East. It
has one of the busiest international air ports which
is used by about 170 Air lines regularly.
The most modern technologically advanced sea
port in the region is in Dubai which is visited by
some 150 shipping lines across the world.
It is in fact the biggest man-made port in
the world. Dubai is
estimated to
serve as a gateway to
1.5 billion people in Asia, Africa, Western
Europe and the Middle East put together.
Jebel
Ali Free Zone was part of a vision that was
telescopic and all encompassing. The Free Zone was
therefore built around Jebel Ali Port.
Dubai
is virtually a Duty Free station in the sense that
the government, in its dedicated drive to attract
investment and tourism, has liberalized
the economy
with Tax concessions.
Businessmen who invest in the
Free Zone are given Tax holidays for 15
years; no tax on import of capital goods and raw
materials.
