e-Banking & e-Government
Dubai has a highly developed technical infrastructure
to accommodate e-Banking and e-Government. The advantages of savings in time and money by the
introduction of
electronic projects in telecommunications has
prompted the government to computerize the
government service sectors in a phased manner.
The first stage is successfully implemented
through www.dubai.ae. Once fully implemented, the services
would ensure government bodies deal with clients at
high standards on a par with
private sector enterprises
- greater speed, accuracy, transparency and
customer care.
According
to Salim Al-Shaer, Dubai
e-Government Executive Team Member and e-Services
Director, "The
focus of the Dubai e-Government project is not only
to provide electronic services to citizens but to
revolutionise and essentially improve government
performance. This can be done by adopting practices
that are infinitely more suitable to individuals,
establishments and government bodies which operate
in a leading commercial centre like Dubai."
Dubai e-Government
initiative succeeded because the emirate enjoys a
developed technical infrastructure due to the
presence of modern technical services and facilities, such as Dubai
Internet City and Dubai Media City. The high ratio of
Internet users in the UAE and growing purchases of
PCs indicate the technological awareness of its
citizens. The diversity of nationalities in the
country also contributed to exchange of knowledge
and enhanced awareness."
Al Shaer said the local
environment would become more attractive to foreign
investments and large projects.
He called on the private
sector to make comprehensive use of the e-Government
initiative in order to save on time, money and
effort in its dealings with the Government.
Al Shaer said the
inauguration of the first stage of the Dubai
e-Government Department has brought about a
fundamental shift in the functioning of the
government. This radical change is expected to
generate several transformations in the commercial,
social and cultural activities in Dubai.
