Family life
The family is the core of the
Islamic society with elders demanding respect and
women treated with respect and importance. Women are
now free to move around unescorted and besides being
homemakers, they also earn for the family by working
outside their homes. Nuclear families have
extensions and uncles, aunts, grandparents, all
share a close bond with each member. Marriages are
almost always arranged but the conducted with the
consent of the bride and groom. The ceremony is
elaborate and there is singing, dancing and feasting
for over a week.
