Bastakiya
The windtowers, which were used in ancient times as traditional air
conditioners stand out in the topography of the old
district of Bastakia. The alleys between the
old-fashioned mud houses, some of which have been
renovated to serve as residences, also lend a
distinct Arabic look to the area. The old district
is under renovation and as a part of the
conservation programme, it will be preserved in the
museum, the cultural centre, art gallery and
restaurants, which will crop up in the village. The
highlight is an office building of the Ruler, the
Diwan Amiri.
